Inauguration of the Advanced Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences , UESTC

On December 25th, the university held the inauguration ceremony for theAdvanced InstituteofHumanities and Social Sciences and a university-level seminar on the development of philosophy and social science disciplines. Cao Ping, Secretary of the University Party Committee, attended and delivered a speech. Vice President Luo Guangchun presided over the meeting, and Vice President Zhao Zhiqin was also in attendance.

Caopresented the letter of appointment to Professor Zeng Yong, Dean of theAdvancedInstituteofHumanities and Social Sciences, and together with Professor Zeng,inauguratedtheInstitute.

On behalf of the University Party Committee, Caocongratulated the establishment of theAdvancedInstituteofHumanities and Social Sciences,and thanked Professor Zengfor accepting the appointment as its inaugural Dean and for his continued contributions to the university's development. She stated that the founding of the Institute marks a significant milestone in the university's efforts to promote the flourishing development of philosophy and social sciences.

She emphasized that to advance the high-quality development of philosophy and social sciences atUESTC, it is essential to:

1. Fully recognize the importance of philosophy and social sciences for the university's "Double First-Class" initiative, using their prosperity to further refine thedisciplinarysystem and enhance academic standards and overall institutional strength.

2. Leverage the university's strengths in electronic information disciplines, strengthen interdisciplinary integration, and build a high-level philosophy and social science discipline system with UESTC's distinctive strengths.

3. Focus on planning landmark achievements, attach great importance to talent development and high-level platform construction, and further elevate the research level and influence of the university's philosophy and social sciences.and

4. Build theAdvancedInstituteofHumanities and Social Sciences to high standards and quality,aiming for international excellence, and conduct high-level scientific research and think-tank development centered on major national strategic needs and pressing social issues.

Caoemphasizedthat the university will create favorable conditions for the Institute's construction and development. She hoped that, starting from this inauguration ceremony and seminar, relevant departments and humanities/social science schools would actively consider and plan the role UESTC should play in constructing China's independent knowledge system for philosophy and social sciences, jointly opening a new chapter in their development at the university.

Zeng Yong thanked the university forthetrust and support,affirmingthat the establishment of the Institute represents a crucial step by the university to promote integrated development with distinctive features and high-level talent cultivation.He stated that the Institute will be dedicated to fostering an academic atmosphere that pursues truth, values intellectual passion, and strives for profound understanding. It will conduct research in cutting-edge fields such as ethics of science & technology and philosophy of science, cognitive linguistics and cognitive psychology, mathematical economics and econometrics, and technological transformation and social change. By forming a complementary relationship with the university's specialized schools in philosophy and social sciences, the Institute will support their discipline development and talent cultivation. He expressed his expectation that, with the strong support of the university leadership and relevant functional departments, and through positive interaction with the specialized schools, the Institute will thrive and contribute to advancing the university's philosophy and social sciences and its "Double First-Class" initiative.

During the meeting, the head of the Humanities and Social Sciences Division of the Research Administration Office reported on the development status of philosophy and social sciences. Leaders from the School of Management and Economics, School of Public Affairs and Administration, School of Foreign Languages, and School of Marxismexchanged their views.
