On June 14th, the appointment ceremony for the Honorary Director of the Advanced Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences (AI-HSS) was held at Qingshuihe Campus of the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC). Professor Wu Xiaoqiu, National First-Class Professor and Dean of the National Finance Research Institute at Renmin University of China, was appointed as the Honorary Director.

Cao Ping, Secretary of the University Party Committee, presented the Letter of Appointment to Professor Wu Xiaoqiu. Vice President Zhao Zhiqin outlined the background and announced the appointment document, and Professor Zeng Yong, Director of the Institute, presided over the ceremony.
On behalf of the university, Cao expressed gratitude to Professor Wu for accepting the position. She introduced the institute's development progress and highlighted Professor Wu's outstanding achievements in financial theory research, policy practice, and educational management. She emphasized that Professor Wu's appointment marks a significant opportunity for advancing humanities and social sciences at UESTC. She hoped the institute would leverage Professor Wu's leadership to foster deep integration between humanities and STEM disciplines, ultimately establishing a distinctive UESTC model for humanities and social sciences development.
Professor Wu thanked UESTC for its trust and applauded the university's commitment to strengthening humanities and social sciences within its engineering-focused environment. He underscored the crucial role of humanities and social sciences in building a modern powerful country and called for strong institutional support. He proposed establishing interdisciplinary research platforms, recruiting high-caliber experts, and hosting national academic forums to jointly build an innovative ecosystem for humanities and social sciences, thereby contributing to academic advancement and social progress.
