On May 12, Professor Shen Xiaorong, Executive Director of the Academic Council at AI-HSS, UESTC, led a delegation, including faculty representative Professor Wan Xiaolong, to the School of Humanities and Social Science (SHSS) at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) for an academic exchange. The two institutions discussed institutional development, research programs, and distinctive humanities frameworks.

During the exchange, in-depth dialogues focused on USTC's pioneering experience in building its unique humanities ecosystem. Professor Shi Yunli, Executive Dean of SHSS, elaborated on the school's innovative approaches in: disciplinary architecture design, recruitment and cultivation of senior scholars, operational efficiency of administrative units, and frontier-focused research project deployment.

Professor Shen Xiaorong outlined AI-HSS's developmental positioning and strategic vision. Both parties extensively exchanged insights on interdisciplinary advancement pathways, talent development mechanisms, and optimization of research management efficiency.

Prior to the seminar, the AI-HSS delegation toured: USTC History Museum, which showcases China's scientific evolution and "Two Bombs, One Satellite" heritage, and SHSS facilities (including studying functional zoning, spatial design philosophy, and ambience cultivation in academic spaces).

This benchmarking visit provides critical references for AI-HSS's future development planning, governance structure refinement, and disciplinary enhancement. Both institutions are committed to strengthening collaboration in exploring viable approaches for advancing humanities in STEM-focused universities, thereby contributing to the flourishing of philosophy and social sciences in the new era.
