On July 17, 2025, Liu Gao, Director of the Supervision, Evaluation, and Research Integrity Office of the Hunan Provincial Department of Science and Technology, visited the Advanced Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences （AI-HSS） for a special investigation on science and technology ethics governance. Zhao Zhiqin, Vice President of the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), attended the symposium.

At the symposium, Zhao welcomed Director Liu Gao and his delegation, introducing the university’s profile. He emphasized UESTC’s strong commitment to philosophy and social sciences, noting that the establishment of AI-HSS is a key initiative to promote the development of philosophy and social sciences. Aiming for world-class standards, AI-HSS strengthens interdisciplinary integration and hopes to enhance collaboration to advance the field of science and technology ethics.

Liu introduced Hunan’s recent research on science and technology ethics governance and current systemic challenges. He stressed the need to vigorously advance ethics development and proposed deepening exchanges between Hunan and Sichuan to jointly contribute to building a robust governance framework.

The two sides held in-depth discussions on institutional mechanisms, risk prevention, talent cultivation, and future planning. They also exchanged views on ethics committee operations, review procedures, ethics education, and addressing ethical challenges posed by emerging technologies. Representatives from AI-HSS, the Office of Scientific Research & Development, and the School of Information and Communication Engineering attended the symposium.
