Lei Ruipeng, Professor at theAdvancedInstituteofHumanities and Social Sciences,UESTC, and Director of the Research Center for Science and Technology Ethics Governance.Herresearch focuses on philosophy of life sciences, bioethics, andtechnology ethics governance. Over the past five years,shehas served as the chief expert leading several major national research projects, including:

·The National Key R&D Program project "Research on the Ethical, Policy, and Regulatory Framework for Synthetic Biology".

·The National Social Science Foundation Major Project "Philosophical Research on Biobanks in the Era of Big Data".

·The project "Research on the Ethical Governance System for Biomedical Big Data Applications" commissioned by the Guangzhou National Laboratory.

·The National Key R&D Program project "Building an Ethical Framework and Policy System for Synthetic Biology".

In recent years,shehas published over 100 papers in authoritative domestic and international academic journals, includingNature,Bioethics,Hastings Center Report, Issues in Science and Technology,Asian Bioethics Review,Philosophical Research,Philosophical Trends,World Philosophy,Studies in Science of Science,Journal of Dialectics of Nature,Studies in Ethics,Studies in Dialectics of Nature, andMorality and Civilization.

On May 9, 2019,Leipublished the first policy commentaryin the humanities field from China in the top international scientific journalNature: "Reboot Ethics Governance in China". In this article,sheproposed the concepts of "science and technology ethics governance" (科技伦理治理) and "ethics first" (伦理先行), and systematically elaborated the basic principles for science and technology ethics governance. These related concepts and principles have been adopted in a series of central government documents, including the "Opinions on Strengthening the Governance of Science and Technology Ethics" issued by the General Offices of the Central Committee.
