At the invitation of the Institut Pasteur, Professor Lei Ruipeng attended the Paris Conference on Risks from Mirror Life. As the first international conference dedicated to discussing the potential risks of mirror life, it was co-organized by the Institut Pasteur and the Mirror Biology Dialogues Fund. The conference brought together biologists, policymakers, legal experts, ethicists, and social scientists to collectively explore the potential risks of mirror bacteria and formulate future dialogue steps. Professor Lei engaged in in-depth discussions on the ethical issues of mirror life research, contributing important insights to the development of an appropriate global governance framework. The conference reached a consensus that mirror life should not be created until future research can convincingly demonstrate that it does not pose serious risks—a position supported by nearly 100 researchers and policymakers, including Professor Lei.
