Keynote Speaker:

Geoff Hayward is a Professor of Education at the University of Cambridge and former Head of the Department of Education. He previously served as Joint Director of the Nuffield Centre for Evaluation of Education and Training for 14–19-Year-Olds at the University of Oxford’s Faculty of Education, Deputy Director and Director of Research at the ESRC Centre for Skills, Knowledge, and Organisational Performance (SKOPE), and Dean of the Faculty of Education at the University of Leeds. His research focuses on vocational education and training policy and practice, social disadvantage and educational equity, the transition from higher education to the labor market, and the transfer of learning. In recent years, his research has focused on the restructuring of educational assessment systems in the age of artificial intelligence, transformations in higher education governance, and challenges related to academic integrity. His notable publications include Education for All: The Future of Education and Training for 14–19-Year-Olds.


Main Content:

This lecture will explore the impact and challenges that artificial intelligence poses to the governance of higher education. It will provide an in-depth analysis of how AI is disrupting existing evaluation systems and undermining the very foundations of academic credentials; examine the various evaluation solutions currently being proposed and their potential limitations; and introduce an alternative approach centered on “problem-based learning.” The lecture will also address issues related to applying to British universities, particularly Oxford and Cambridge.
