Professor Geoff Hayward and His Delegation from the University of Cambridge Visit AI-HSS

On March 18, Professor Geoff Hayward from the University of Cambridge and his delegation visited AI-HSS to exchange views on the Institute’s disciplinary development, collaborative research, talent cultivation and future development. Representatives from AI-HSS and the International Office participated in the exchange.

The Dean of AI-HSS, Professor Zeng Yong, extended a warm welcome to Professor Hayward and his delegation on behalf of the whole faculty, and introduced the establishment background, disciplinary layout and development direction of AI-HSS. Committed to promoting the in-depth integration of humanities and social sciences with cutting-edge technology, AI-HSS hopes to carry out exchanges and cooperation with the University of Cambridge in the fields of artificial intelligence ethics and educational governance, and jointly explore academic approaches with an international perspective.

Professor Hayward highly commended AI-HSS's active exploration in the interdisciplinary field of humanities and technology. He hoped that the two sides could establish a long-term cooperation mechanism in disciplinary development, joint research and talent cultivation to promote in-depth academic exchanges between scholars of the two universities.

On the same day, Professor Hayward was invited to the 28th "Humanities × Technology" Thinkers’ Forum of AI-HSS and delivered a special speech entitled "Artificial Intelligence and Higher Education Governance".

Adopting the form of group discussion, Professor Hayward guided teachers and students to explore the connection between AI and educational productivity. Combining research data and cases, he explained the value of AI in assisting learning and improving teaching efficiency, and also faced up to the challenges it brings to the educational evaluation system and academic integrity, emphasizing that universities should balance technical assistance and human judgment to make technology serve the essence of education.
